February 2015. Avoca, Co Wicklow, Ireland.
I confess, I have become a little obsessed with the Bridge at Avoca in Co Wicklow, Ireland. It's a beautiful place that means a lot to me. I've also been a fan of Janine Kilroe's handpainted photography for some time, so in a flash of inspiration, it occurred to me to bring the two together. I asked Janine if she would come to Ireland and work her magic on the bridge. As a non-artist, it was fascinating to watch the process. She is meticulous about detail, she took time to understand what it was about the bridge that is important to me, she found an angle that I would never have explored, that made the shot even more personal. The result is stunning and will hang on my wall for many decades to come. Thank you, Janine.

"We're looking forward to hanging your work " BRIGHTON CAROUSEL" at home. In fact, we've been back to view the piece since the buyers day because we enjoy it so much.
I think it attracts us for several reasons:
Brighton beach was my family's closest seafront when I was a child.
I remember trips to the West Pier and the pebbles.
Composition and colour.
We're drawn in to the piece, from the horse to the deck chairs, then to the horizon and pier.
Your colouring lead us in to the picture and the vivid colours on the beach in contrast to the crumbling pier.
We enjoy the piece - it makes us happy. :-)"

"And Kilroe, an exhibitor in Oxfordshire Art Weeks this May, offers Brighton Carousel, an attractively inventive photograph on hand coloured paper. Sparing use of colour picks out the painted horses and vacant deckchairs on the beach; and the gleaming eye of the galloping horse draws the viewer in: does it long for freedom?"

"In a world where we are surrounded by images on a daily basis, many of them photographic and mostly digital, it is a sheer joy to see Janine's photography. Her work oozes drama and design. Her heart and soul shout out of the images at you. To live with her beautiful work, on an day to day basis on the walls of my home is to be privileged to partake of her artistic vision.
Janine's techniques, lighting, composition, capturing the drama are all well honed, but what has always set her work apart is how she draws you into her visual world and ably shares her passion and vision with you."

"When I go raspberry picking I spend a lot of time looking up through the foliage and find it quite magical. When I want to be transported to other places while I'm having a cup of tea I put Henry Mancini's Lujon on youtube and always wish that life could be like this song. It’s a similar thing to your photos for me.”
Wendy T, British Craft Trade Fair, April 2012
“You are the inspiration of the show. I felt jaded, everything blending into a sameness, until I saw your work.”
